RoboCup: Competition, research, and the future of robotics

Lecture

RoboCup is more than just “robots playing soccer”: it is a global competition that brings together young talent, research, and open source – from junior to major, from soccer to rescue to @Home.

In this presentation, we provide a concise, easy-to-understand overview: Why does RoboCup exist in the first place? What disciplines are there? What can we learn from it for robotics (and teamwork)?

We will present some fun robots that you can touch, look at, and experience live – without a programming workshop, but with real robotics within reach.

Ideal for anyone who is only vaguely familiar with RoboCup or wants to get a taste of it for the first time.

The presentation will take place on the stage at the back of Hall 9.

Rust on Robots

Workshop

Rust is fast, modern, and helps to avoid typical embedded errors early on—exactly what you need for robots.

In this workshop, we will give a short, practical introduction to Rust and then dive right into joint exercises: writing Rust ourselves, solving small tasks, and then flashing and testing Rust on an STM32 (or similar board).

Ideal for those interested in RoboCup from extracurricular or vocational education who have already programmed before and want to try Rust as a tool for robust robotics.

Level: Beginner (with programming experience)

Please bring your own laptop!
